How renewal works
Valid for 3 years
Your certificate is valid for 3 years from the date WorkSafeBC issues it.
Renew with the exam
Pass the exam for your level again. No course needed.
Up to 12 months late
You can renew up to 12 months after it expires, but you can’t do asbestos work while it’s expired.
Highest level only
Only your highest level needs renewing. Level 2 covers Level 1.
More than 12 months expired?
Take the full course again: Level 1 online, Level 1 in person or Level 2.

Questions
How long is a WorkSafeBC asbestos certificate valid?
Asbestos certificates are valid for 3 years from the date WorkSafeBC issues them.
Do I need to take the course again to renew?
No. To renew, you pass the exam for your level again. No course is needed, as long as you renew within 12 months after your certificate expires.
What if my certificate has already expired?
You can still renew with the exam up to 12 months after it expires, but you can’t do asbestos work while it’s expired. After 12 months, you need to take the full course and exam again.
I have Level 1 and Level 2. Do I renew both?
No. Only your highest level needs renewing. Renew Level 2 and you’re covered.
Can I write the exam online?
The Level 1 renewal exam is online. The Level 2 renewal exam is in person at our Burnaby training centre.
I trained with another company. Can I renew with you?
Yes. Anyone with a WorkSafeBC asbestos certificate can renew with us. Have your certificate number and expiry date ready.
Who issues my renewed certificate?
WorkSafeBC issues your renewed certificate after you pass. It’s valid for another 3 years.
