Workers in forests, remote camps and rural job sites across Canada can meet a bear at any time. Most encounters can be avoided, and most end safely when workers know what to do. Bear awareness training helps you prevent conflicts and respond calmly.
This course is for forestry workers and tree planters, mining and exploration crews, oil and gas and pipeline workers, utility and construction crews at remote sites, researchers, park staff and tourism guides. It is also useful for camp staff and anyone who travels or works in bear country.
The course starts with general wildlife awareness and working safely around wild animals. It then covers bears in detail: how to tell black bears from grizzly bears, signs of bear activity, managing food and other attractants at camps and work sites, avoiding surprise encounters, reading a bear's behaviour, and carrying and using bear spray. It is WorkSafe-aligned and follows Canadian OHS requirements.
The course is 100% online and self-paced. Study on a computer, tablet or phone, and your progress saves automatically. Pass the final exam with 80% or more and download your certificate right away. Retakes are free and unlimited, and a physical wallet card is mailed to you at no extra cost.
Your certificate is recognized by employers across Canada. The course is available in English, French, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi, Mandarin and more. Training a team? Volume pricing starts at 2 seats, with an admin dashboard to track progress.
