Online H2S Awareness Training · General Industry · Instant Certificate
Online Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Awareness training for general industry, wastewater, pulp & paper, and confined space workers.
Our online H2S Awareness course covers hydrogen sulfide properties, physiological effects, detection methods, gas monitoring, respirator selection (SCBA and SABA), exposure controls, emergency response, and rescue awareness under BC OHS Regulation Part 5 (Chemical Substances). Instant certificate, physical wallet card mailed free. Note: This is H2S Awareness training — NOT Energy Safety Canada's trademarked H2S Alive® course. Oil & gas workers requiring H2S Alive must complete Energy Safety Canada's 8-hour in-person program with an ESC-certified provider.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) — also called sour gas, sewer gas, or swamp gas — is one of the most dangerous industrial hazards in Canada. Even brief exposure to high concentrations can cause unconsciousness and death within seconds. Workers in oil & gas, wastewater treatment, pulp and paper, landfills, sewer maintenance, and confined space operations face potential H2S exposure. Under BC OHS Regulation Part 5 (Chemical and Biological Substances), employers must train workers who may be exposed to H2S.
Gama Safety Canada's Online H2S Awareness course delivers general-industry hydrogen sulfide safety training. Complete on any device at your own pace. Instant digital certificate. Physical wallet card mailed to your address at no extra cost.
There are two main types of H2S training in Canada — understanding the difference is critical:
If your employer specifically requires "H2S Alive" — this course is NOT a substitute. Book Energy Safety Canada's H2S Alive® course through an ESC-certified provider (Energy Safety Canada, St. John Ambulance, AIP Safety, Great Plains College, Tritech Safety, and others). Our H2S Awareness course is designed for general industry.
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colourless gas with the characteristic smell of rotten eggs at low concentrations. However — and this is critically important — H2S deadens your sense of smell at higher concentrations. Above 100 ppm, workers may not smell the gas even as it becomes lethal. This is why gas monitors are essential, not smell.

Hydrogen Sulfide training is essential for workers in industries where H2S exposure is possible, such as oil and gas. The course covers detection methods, PPE use, and emergency response procedures. Participants learn about the health risks of H2S and how to act during an exposure event. Certification ensures workers are prepared to work safely in hazardous environments.
