An order picker — also called an order picker forklift, stock picker, man-up forklift, or high-level order picker — is a specialized warehouse forklift where the operator rides UP with the load platform to pick individual cases and items from tall storage racks (typically 20 to 30+ feet). Order pickers are the backbone of e-commerce fulfillment centres, pharmaceutical distribution, and wholesale warehouses.
Under BC OHS Regulation Part 16 and CSA Standard B335, workers must complete documented training before operating any order picker. Because order pickers involve elevated operation, Part 11 (Fall Protection) requirements also apply.
Gama Safety Canada's Online Order Picker course delivers CSA B335-aligned Class 2 theory training with integrated fall protection instruction. Complete on any device at your own pace. Instant digital certificate. Physical wallet card mailed to your address at no extra cost.
Under BC OHS Regulation Part 16 and CSA B335, full order picker certification requires a hands-on practical evaluation on a real machine — especially critical for order pickers because of the elevated operator platform. Online theory alone is not sufficient for most first-time operators seeking full employer certification.
For first-time operators, we recommend our On-Campus Order Picker training in Burnaby for full certification with elevated practical evaluation.
An order picker is a specialized electric warehouse forklift where the operator platform lifts along with the load, allowing the operator to travel vertically to individual cases or items in tall storage racks. It's used for case-level or item-level picking in e-commerce fulfillment, pharmaceutical distribution, wholesale warehouses, and any facility with vertical storage above 15 feet.
Under CSA and ANSI classifications, order pickers fall under Class 2 — Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks. Popular brands include Raymond (7000 and 7500 series), Crown SP Series, Yale MO Series, Toyota, Hyster, and Jungheinrich.
Yes. Order picker operators must wear a full-body harness anchored to the machine while elevated — this is unique among warehouse forklifts. Our online course integrates basic fall protection awareness specific to Class 2 operations. However, some employers require a full standalone Fall Protection certification for elevated warehouse work. If yours does, take our Online Fall Protection course. Bundle discount available.
