Blended Skid Steer Operator Training - Online Theory + Burnaby Campus - CA$224.95

A course for new and returning skid steer loader operators in British Columbia. It teaches skid steers in general. Controls patterns, rated operating capacity, interlocks, inspection points and slope limits differ between makes and models, so you learn to find them in the operator's manual, on the data plate and on the decals.

How it works

• Online theory, about 4 hours: 7 modules in order, at your own pace. Each module ends with an exercise and a knowledge check, and has an optional "Go deeper" page. An optional practice test is at the end.
• Book your practical: when you finish the online part, call 1-866-661-9803.
• On campus in Burnaby, about 4 hours: written test, then hands-on practical and evaluation on a wheeled skid steer with a general-purpose bucket.

What you will leave with

• Know who is responsible for safety around a skid steer
• See the hazards that can seriously injure operators and people nearby
• Inspect a machine, and take it out of service when it isn't safe
• Operate a skid steer with a bucket, under supervision, and be assessed
• Read any machine's manual and data plate

How you are evaluated

• Online knowledge checks and the practice test are practice. They don't count.
• Written test on campus: 20 multiple-choice questions, closed book, 25 minutes, 16 correct to pass (80%).
• Practical: an assessed pre-use inspection and an operating evaluation. Every critical item must be met.
• Your certificate is issued when you have passed both the written test and the practical. It is valid for 3 years (Gama policy).

What to bring

• Government-issued photo ID, checked at sign-in
• Your own CSA-approved safety boots. Without them you can't operate the machine.
• Gama supplies the hard hat, high-visibility vest, gloves and safety glasses.
