How much does the blended telehandler course cost?

CA$249.95 per person for new operators, CA$199.95 for experienced operators, plus 5% GST.

Do I need training to run a telehandler in BC?

Yes. BC's OHS Regulation (Part 16, section 16.43) requires employers to make sure lift truck operators, including telehandler operators, are trained before they operate. There is no WorkSafeBC telehandler licence. Our certificate records your training and assessment; your employer still checks you on its own machine and attachments and authorizes you.

How do I book the practical session?

When you finish the online part, call 1-866-661-9803.

Where is the practical session?

Location details are sent with your booking. Your booking confirmation gives the address and start time.

What happens at the practical session?

Check-in at 8:00, then the written exam in Moodle by QR code, then the hands-on practical and evaluation on a fixed-boom telehandler with pallet forks. Up to 4 seats per session.

What do I need to bring?

Government-issued photo ID, your own CSA-approved safety boots and a phone for the written exam. Without the boots you can't operate the machine. Gama has a spare phone or tablet, and supplies the hard hat, high-visibility vest, gloves and safety glasses.

Should I book as a new or an experienced operator?

Book as experienced (CA$199.95) only if you hold a valid certificate for this machine from any provider, or a Gama certificate that expired less than a year ago, and can show it at check-in. Otherwise book as a new operator (CA$249.95), which gives you more hands-on time on the machine.

Which telehandlers does the course cover?

Fixed-boom (non-rotating) telehandlers with pallet forks. Rotating telehandlers, suspended loads, work platforms and lifting people are not covered and need separate training.

Do the online knowledge checks count?

No. The online knowledge checks and the optional practice test are practice. Your real written exam is at your practical session.

What if I don't pass the written exam?

You need 16 of 20 to pass. Under 16, you get one re-write on a later date. If you fail the re-write, you retake the course.

How long is the certificate valid?

3 years (Gama policy). Your certificate and wallet card are issued when you have passed both the written exam and the practical. Your employer manages refresher training and may require it sooner, for example after an incident or a change of machine, attachment or task.
